MAHONING COUNTY -- The owners of the Ohio Valley Mall and the mall, itself, have been named in a 73-count indictment by the Mahoning County Grand Jury.
The 41-page indictment says the Cafaro Company prevented the county's purchase of a huge retail property back in 2006.
Among those named is developer Anthony Cafaro, Senior who retired from his family-run company last December and his sister, Flora, who is a current executive with the company.
The indictments charge the Cafaro company with engaging in a pattern of corrupt activity; including bribery, perjury, money laundering and ethics violations.
The lawsuit centers around a property known as Oak Hill Renaissance Place.
In a news release, the Cafaro Company responded by saying: "the lawsuit brought by Ohio Valley Mall Company exercised its right as a taxpayer to oppose wasteful spending of taxpayer monies. Subsequent events have proven that this opposition to the multimillion-dollar purchase of the Oakhill Facility was correct."
